Detailing a Tesla Model Y
Four things change on a Model Y: the paint is softer than most and marks more easily, the vegan leather wants a pH-neutral cleaner rather than a traditional leather conditioner, the centre screen scratches and must never meet an ammonia glass cleaner, and the full glass roof shows every water spot. None of it is difficult — it just punishes a generic process.
The paint is softer than you expect
Tesla paint is widely regarded as soft, which means it swirls more readily than most and shows wash marring sooner. It also means it corrects relatively easily when it does.
In practice that argues for a two-bucket contact wash with plenty of lubrication, or a touchless approach between details. An automatic wash with brushes is the fastest way to put swirls into this paint.
White and black behave very differently here. Black shows every swirl; the solid white hides them and shows water spotting instead.
The glass roof shows everything
A full-length glass roof is a large uninterrupted surface at a shallow angle, which is exactly the geometry that shows mineral spotting. Central Texas water is hard, so a driveway rinse that dries in the sun leaves the roof stippled.
De-ionized water matters more on this car than on most, purely because of how much glass is facing upward.
The interior is not leather
The seats are a synthetic — durable and easy to wipe, but it does not want the conditioners built for hide. A pH-neutral interior cleaner is the right tool; heavy conditioners sit on the surface and go greasy.
The white interior is the one that needs attention. Dye transfer from dark denim is the common complaint, and it responds much better to being caught early than to being scrubbed later.
The screen is the part people damage. No ammonia, no household glass cleaner, and never a dry cloth on a dusty screen — a clean damp microfibre only.
Practical notes for an EV detail
There is no engine bay to degrease in the usual sense, so an engine bay add-on is not something a Model Y needs.
The frunk collects grit and is almost always missed. So are the door pockets and the cavity under the boot floor.
Leave the car awake and unlocked, or expect the handles to retract mid-wash.

Questions
How much does it cost to detail a Tesla Model Y?
A Model Y is a two-row SUV in our pricing: full detail $220, interior only $160, exterior only $90.
Can you detail an EV safely?
Yes. The high-voltage system is sealed and the car is designed to be washed. We keep pressure away from charge ports and seals, which is ordinary practice on any vehicle.
Is ceramic coating worth it on a Tesla?
The argument is stronger than average, because the paint is soft and marks easily, and a coating adds a harder sacrificial layer plus UV protection. It is quoted per car after we look at the paint.
