Ceramic Coating vs Sealant vs Wax
All three put a protective layer over your clear coat; the difference is how long it lasts and how much prep goes in first. Wax lasts about a month and comes with every TRZ exterior detail. A paint sealant lasts about three months — ours is the Koch Chemie 3-month sealant, a $30 add-on. A ceramic coating lasts years and starts with paint correction, so it is quoted per car. For a car you are keeping that lives outside in Austin, a coating is usually worth it; for a lease going back soon, a sealant does most of the job.

Wax
Wax is the entry point and the one most people already know. It adds gloss and makes water bead, and it gives bird droppings, bugs and minerals something other than your clear coat to sit on.
The catch is time. In Texas heat and with regular washing, it is gone in weeks. That is why every TRZ exterior detail finishes with a spray wax — it is maintenance, not long-term protection.
Paint sealant
A sealant does the same job as wax but is synthetic, bonds more tightly and lasts about three times as long. It is the best value if you want real protection without paying for correction.

Ceramic coating
A coating is a liquid that cures into a thin, hard layer bonded to the clear coat. It lasts years rather than months, and what you notice is that the car stays cleaner and washes faster — sap, pollen, bird droppings and hard water spots release instead of bonding.
It is also the only one of the three that begins with paint correction. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so the paint is decontaminated and machine polished first. Which one to choose
Keeping the car for years and parking it outside: a ceramic coating. Austin sun, sprinklers and trees are exactly what it is for.
A lease going back within a year, or a car you are selling soon: a sealant. You get most of the protection for a fraction of the cost.
Garage-kept and washed every couple of weeks: wax is enough, and a maintenance plan keeps it topped up on a schedule.
