Rollingwood is a small incorporated city of about 0.7 square miles, three miles west of downtown, sitting south of Bee Cave Road between MoPac and Loop 360. Zilker Park lies just to the east and Barton Creek and its greenbelt run along the southern edge, so the city is surrounded by some of Austin's best-known green space. It was incorporated in 1963, children go to Eanes ISD schools, and Rollingwood Park is the local gathering spot. Many of the original mid-century houses on generous wooded lots are being replaced with much larger modern homes. Streets are short and quiet, and parking tends to be in driveways rather than on the road.

That turnover gives Rollingwood two very different things to deal with. On streets with a rebuild under way, concrete and masonry dust drifts onto cars parked nearby, and it is abrasive enough to scratch if wiped dry. On the quieter streets, old oaks shade the driveways and drop sap, pollen and bird droppings that set hard in the summer heat. Detailing here often means switching between the two: rinsing grit off without scratching, then lifting sap and sealing the paint so it is easier to keep clean. Inside the car, pollen and dust from the building work get into the vents and on the dashboard as well.
