Travis Heights climbs the bluffs south of Lady Bird Lake, bounded by South Congress Avenue on the west, I-35 on the east and Oltorf Street on the south. Founded in 1912 by Newning, Swisher and General Stacy and built out mostly from the 1920s, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district in 2021. Blunn Creek runs through the middle, with the Blunn Creek Nature Preserve of nearly 40 acres, Stacy Park and the spring-fed Big Stacy pool along its course. Children are zoned to Travis Heights Elementary, Lively Middle and Travis High.

The canopy is the defining feature: huge pecans and live oaks over hilly streets, with many houses on small lots with narrow drives or none at all. So cars park on the street or tuck in beside the house, right under the trees, often with nowhere better to go. Pecans drop sticky residue, leaves and twigs; oaks add pollen and sap; and birds in the branches add the rest. On a steep street, a car can sit under that fallout for days between drives. Regular decontamination and a protective coating matter more here than almost anywhere in town, and interiors benefit from a proper clean after plenty of short trips to South Congress and downtown.
